Dear CSA Member.

Finally the delivery season for your CSA shares begins.  The planting, plowing, preparation has been going on at the farm since February and we are so happy to finally be delivering.
Your share is full of early lettuces, Asian greens, radishes and oregano.  Beautiful salads and stir fry await.
If you would still like to add a fruit share or a coffee share please go to the farm website and down load the form.  Fruit shares do not start until the 5th delivery and we will start the coffee share delivery the second week of delivery.  We are also offering coffee by the pound along with honey and maple syrup.  The forms are on the website as well.
Please take a look at our photos on the website.  Jen has been doing a great job taking photos and posting them.  She has also been adding entries to the farm blog.  Both will give you a  better picture of our farm.  Jen has added a photo of the greens from this week on the blog with their names.  Some look similar so you may like to check the photo.
We are working on adding farm work days to our calendar this year and I will be sending more information once we have the dates decided.  It seems early, but please pencil in the annual Farm Visit which will takes place the second Saturday in September.  This year the date is September 11.  More details will be coming on the Farm Visit as well.
Welcome.
Enjoy the vegetables.  Deb, for everyone at Stoneledge Farm

Full Vegetable Share
Cherriette Radishes – 1 bunch
Boc Choi – 1 bunch
Red Leaf Lettuce – 2 heads
Buttercrunch Lettuce – 1 head
Arugula – 1 bunch
Mizuna – 1 bunch
Mustard – 1 bunch
Oregano – 1 bunch
A note about greens. The greens are just beautiful and we have dunked them to cool them but they are not washed.  An easy way to clean them is to take them from the bunch, swish in a basin of cold water, drain and rinse again.  Dry them well in a salad spinner or cotton towels.  They will keep crisp and delicious in your refrigerator in a plastic container.  I have also heard they will keep well in a clean cotton pillow case and even in a closed paper bag.
You will notice small holes in the Arugula, Mustard, Mizuna and Boc Choi.  They are all part of the same vegetable family and the insect called the Flea Beetle love them.  We do our best to keep them off with floating row cover, but they are really small and very tenacious.  It is only cosmetic damage and the vegetables are the best of the early season.

A hearty congratulations to our friends at Hot Bread Kitchen. They will be the anchor tenant at La Marqueta, an indoor market spanning 80,000 square feet under the Metro North train on Park Avenue from East 111th Street to East 119th Street. This will allow HBK to grow its production to meet market demand for our ethnic breads and train more bakers. The site will also provide seven kitchen spaces for rent where both food entrepreneurs and graduates of Hot Bread Kitchen’s training program will launch and grow their food businesses.

HBK is a non-profit organization whose mission is to preserve ethnic baking traditions and create opportunities for immigrant women in NYC to build their own businesses. They have delivered products to our CSA in the past and probably would do so again if we had enough member interest. For more information visit http://www.hotbreadkitchen.org/.

Some folks may be interested in getting flowers every 2 weeks instead of every week. Add a comment here if you are a Yorkville CSA member who would like to find a partner to alternate weeks on a flower share.
