Volunteers are needed to call members and remind them of the first delivery date.  While most of our communications these days is over the Internet, not all of our members check email or websites religiously.  The more people willing to pitch in, the less phone calls each person needs to make.  Please respond by adding a comment on this post or send an email if you can help.

Volunteering is a requirement for all Carnegie Hill members.  Working at the site is fun and you get to hang out with some very nice people.  Check your calendar from June 7 through November 24.  Just email info90@chycsa.org or fill in a space on the volunteer sheet at the membership desk.  Apart from producing the vegetables (Stoneledge does that), our CSA is totally run by members so please bring some patience and a sense of humor when you come to pick up.

There are  3 time slots:

1:30 – 3:30 PM

  • Set up tables
  • Unload vegetable crates
  • Divide half shares

3:30 – 5:30 PM

  • Sign in members
  • Maintain the tables

5:15 – 7:15 PM

  • Sign in members
  • Maintain the tables
  • Close down the site

At the Yorkville site volunteering is not mandatory but it is appreciated.  All the folks at the site are member/volunteers without whom the group would not exist.  Many members find volunteering to be the piece that really makes the CSA come together.  It’s a great way to meet people in the neighborhood.  We have a core group of regular volunteers to open and close the site so don’t worry about being left alone to do something you’ve never done before.  Jobs include:

Opening Shift  – 2:30 to 5:00
Tasks include

  • Setting up the tables
  • Helping unload the truck
  • Splitting up items for half shares
  • Checking in and assisting new members during pickup

Middle Shift – 4:30 to 6:30
Tasks include

  • Checking in and assisting new members during pickup
  • Replenishing items
  • Answering questions from passers-by

Closing Shift – 5:30 to 7:30
Tasks include

  • Checking in and assisting new members during pickup
  • Replenishing items
  • Answering questions from passers-by
  • Bring leftover items to the church kitchen
  • Put away tables and supplies
  • Clean the site

Other volunteering opportunities are available which can be done from home.  This can be anything from making phone calls to entering recipes on the website to helping arrange rideshares up to the farm.  Watch for postings and emails requesting volunteer work.
