A hearty congratulations to our friends at Hot Bread Kitchen. They will be the anchor tenant at La Marqueta, an indoor market spanning 80,000 square feet under the Metro North train on Park Avenue from East 111th Street to East 119th Street. This will allow HBK to grow its production to meet market demand for our ethnic breads and train more bakers. The site will also provide seven kitchen spaces for rent where both food entrepreneurs and graduates of Hot Bread Kitchen’s training program will launch and grow their food businesses.

HBK is a non-profit organization whose mission is to preserve ethnic baking traditions and create opportunities for immigrant women in NYC to build their own businesses. They have delivered products to our CSA in the past and probably would do so again if we had enough member interest. For more information visit http://www.hotbreadkitchen.org/.

Visit us at the New Amsterdam Market on Sunday, 9/13

Hot Bread Kitchen and the region’s finest farmers, purveyors, and producers will be selling their delicious wares this Sunday at the New Amsterdam Market in South Street Seaport. If the food isn’t enough of a draw, it is also the celebration of the 400th anniversary of Hudson’s Voyage to the New World which will be marked with free boat rides and other activities.

The market gathers on South Street, between Beekman Street and Peck Slip in Manhattan between 11:00am – 4:00pm.

To mark the event, Hot Bread Kitchen offering seasonal, delectable breads.
Here are some highlights:

Fresh Masa: For the first time ever, Hot Bread Kitchen is offering our stone-ground corn masa– the dough that we use to make our famous tortillas. Pick up some masa and make your own tortillas, gorditas, tamales, and even papusas. We will have a limited quantity, so stop by early. Prepared tortillas will also be available.

Trio of Challahs: Just in time for Rosh Hashana, Hot Bread Kitchen is offering three types of challahs shaped in the traditional year-end crown shape. We’ll have a sephardic challah with sesame and caraway, a traditional egg challah made with local whole wheat flour from the Finger Lakes, and a honey-sweet raisin challah. You can pick them up Sunday and eat them this week or they’ll freeze beautifully for Rosh Hashana celebrations next weekend.

We’ll also have asiago and cherry tomato focaccia and lavash for snacking.

We are writing this reminder for our delivery coming up on Tuesday, August 18th. The order deadline is on Thursday, August 13th at midnight. We are proud of the farm network we have created to provide you some of our regions fresh and family grown products. We hope you enjoy then all and we also hope to expand our offering as time goes by and we get better at our coordination with everyone.

In order to make our website ordering more user friendly we have added a new feature. Once you have selected a category ex: Beef, Grass-Fed Grass-Finished LWF. You are now able to use a cut filter feature. Rather than going through all our cuts you can now type in the name of the cut (these are not case sensitive) and go directly to that cut. This should
save time and frustration during the order process.

We are now offering Joint Venture Farm Pastured Stewing Chickens. They were previously pastured laying hens. They run between 2.3 to 3.1 lbs and are great for soups and making wonderful chicken broth!

Thank you for your support, we love our farm life, as busy as it can be at times!

Please remember to place your orders on time as late orders are a disruption to all of the farms involved.

Nancy Brown
