At tonight’s meeting, community board 8 voted to approve an application to extend the St. Stephen’s Green market for a full 52-week schedule.  This is an impressive reversal from last week’s meeting when the street fairs subcommittee voted 7-2 to recommend a June to December schedule only.  Statements of support for council members Jessica Lappin and Dan Garodnick along with sentiments expressed by several community members helped to sway the board.  The final vote was 36 for, 5 against and 3 abstain.

The market is open on Saturdays from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM on the south side of 82nd St. between 1st and York.

Dear CSA Member,

The seed catalogs have started to arrive and we are placing our seed orders for the spring.  The boxes of seeds will start to arrive within this month.  The fertilizer salesman gave us a call last night and we have our fertilizer ordered for 2011.  Peter and Arliss have been working on constructing a new greenhouse that we will be filling with seedlings before the snow has a chance to melt in February.  Potting soil and more flats are ordered and will be arriving soon.  As one year comes to a close, the next has already begun.

We seem to always be planning ahead, looking into new crops, studying how to improve our farming practices, building.  Today we just stopped our selves to think back over this past season.   As we complete our harvest for the last delivery of the 2011 season we are mindful and thankful for our bountiful harvest this season and for the addition of the new farmland, the dedication and hard work of the Core Members, the support of the community organizations that host the CSA sites, and to you for being a CSA member.

The Community Board 8 Street Fair Committee meets on Wednesday, November 10 to decide on extending the St. Stephen’s Green Market permit and make it year-round.

The meeting will be held at the Ramaz School auditorium at 125 E 85th St. at 7:00 PM.  If you cannot attend please contact the community board at info@CB8M.com and let them know what you want for our neighborhood.  The co-chairs of the committee are Barbara Chocky and Lisa Lijewski.
