Although this has been a tough year for the vegetable farmers in the Northern Catskill-Hudson Valley region, it has been just as difficult if not even more demanding for the fruit growers. During one storm when hail, rain and wind destroyed our summer squash planting, one of the orchards we work with lost 300 trees and thousands of pounds of fruit.
There was so little sun this summer, too much rain and the fruit, vegetables and the farmers have been stressed to their limits producing a harvest. The fruit may be a bit softer and not last as long as in the past. Again, just like the vegetables. Make sure it is refrigerated.
