Things To Do in Catskill

Apple Picking

Boehm’s Apple Barn – 233 County Route 26 – Climax, 12042 – (518) 731-6196 – Pick your own apples, seasonally fresh fruits and vegetables and apple products and baked goods.

Bulich’s Creekside Farm – Route 23B – Leeds, 12451 – (518)943-5739 – Wide selection of seasonal field-grown fruits.

Schnare’s Sunset Orchards – 1008 NYS Route 81 – Climax, 12042 – (518) 731-2255 – Wide variety of locally grown produce. U-Pick apples mid-Sept to end of October. On-premises cider mill. Cider donuts. Scenic view of mountain foliage.

Antiquing in Oak Hill

Take route 23 to 145 to 81; turn right onto 81 toward Greenville. Oak Hill has several good antique places and prices seem better than elsewhere. Other places to try are Saugerties (exit 20) or Hudson.

Leaf-Watching, Hiking, Horseback Riding, Local Events and Culture

North Lake/South Lake Park – take in a view of (or climb to) Kaaterskill Falls. Don’t take kids or squeamish adults – there’s an unprotected, deadly drop and a few people go over (accidentally) every year. Or ride down the Hudson and across Rip Van Winkle Bridge, you’ll get an awesome view of foliage and the river.

Devil’s Tombstone – Route 214, Hunter, NY 12442, (518) 688-7160. Natural rock formation resembles a large tombstone. More advanced trails for hiking.

Hunter Mountain – (518) 263-4223. Breathtaking views of the Northeast from the highest, longest chairlift in the Catskills.  www.huntermtn.com

Bailiwick Ranch / Catskill Equestrian (518) 678-5665 www.bailiwickranch.com. Castle Rd, Catskill, NY 12414 – Horseback riding.

Catskill Mountain Foundation – www.catskillmtn.org

Olana – home of Hudson River School Painter Frederick Church; about 20 minutes from farm, on other side of Hudson. Visit www.olana.org or call (518) 828-0135

Massacre Mansion – Take a guided tour through the scariest Haunted House. 7 pm – 11 pm at the Blackthorne Resort, 348 Sunside Rd., East Durham, NY518-634-2541.  www.massacremansion.com.

Woodstock
About 30 minutes south of Stoneledge.  Get off at exit 19 and follow signs.

I was thinking of bringing my two boys ages 4 and 20 months the the visit on the 12th. Can’t leave till noon or there after. Is the visit kid friendly? How long is the drive from Manhattan UES?
Thank you,
Frances

the visit is definitely kid friendly. it’s about 2 – 2.5 hour drive so long as you don’t hit a ton of traffic leaving the city.

Thank you Steven. We will definitely try to be there with some food in hand.
Best,
Frances
